Josh is a highly connected media professional with a passion for introducing people and brokering new connections within the creative sector.
Since a very young age, Josh has had a natural passion for the media field – an aspiration that was initially grown out of his first experience, aged 13; work experience at his local broadcast network hub, BBC East. At the age of 17 he was nominated as the Deputy Chairman of a new community radio station, GYFM (Gorleston & Yarmouth FM). Subsequently, the station successfully completed two on air trials. At GYFM, Josh refined his skills by training new members and gained experience within the presentational department.
Josh has a First Class Honours graduate of Media Production (TV & Radio). He has also completed the Creative Industry Practice programme, achieving a Certificate in Postgraduate Studies as well as having and continuing to develop a strong practical acumen gained from current and previous experience. Studying at the University of Sunderland has enabled Josh to not only gain valuable experience but to also offer his expertise at an award winning multi-platform media brand. 107 Spark FM (part of the Spark Sunderland brand) is the North East largest community radio station. Over its recent history it has won numerous industry accolades, gaining recognition on a regional, national and even international stage. In 2012, Spark was named the ‘Best Student Station in the World’ at the prestigious New York Festivals. It has also received the ‘Best Radio Station in The North East’ award two years running (2011 & 2012) by The Radio Academy‘s Nation and Regions Award and was nominated Best Station 2010 at the Student Radio Awards. Here he held various positions including Programme Controller (December 2010-October 2011) and was heavily involved in the development of talent as well as the programming and management of the station.
In 2012, Josh founded the film production company, Contrapunto with a group of talented creative graduates from the University of Sunderland. Completed projects have spanned the creation of successful corporate and promotional films for large public sector organisation as well as a number of exciting North East start-ups. He has gained invaluable experience through the Blueprint Business Planning Competition, where the company was awarded the Highly Commended award in the Creative category in 2012. Contrapunto is now transformation into a venture that represents talented and upcoming creative individuals.
Josh’s professional attitude and level of experience has led him gain recognition and access into a variety of schemes run by large media organisations including ITV’s Insight Pool. In 2013 he was also selected as a member of the highly competitive (5000 applicants to 120 people) Production Talent Pool run by the BBC. The paid placements he undertakes with these organisations is constantly refining his skillset and developing Josh’s networks.
Personal life very much informs Josh’s business activities. In his spare time he reflects on the world we live in and learns more about the people who we share society with through activities such as filmmaking, compering at Corporate Events, collaborating with new talent and networking with a variety of people. When he’s not on the phone or tapping away on a keyboard to help arrange the next project or production you’ll find me in the local intimate venue soaking up some tip top arts and comedy, or taking walks in the park, furnished with an autobiography in one hand and a flask of green tea in the other.Founding Partners
