Throughout the evening, we had some Live Music on offer, courtesy of The Beth Macari Band who kindly cancelled a previously arranged gig to perform at the event.

Because of you, we raised £343.84 for Age UK Newcastle.

We have some exciting and unique projects with various North East organisations in the pipeline - we can’t wait to get them into production.

We will also be working this Summer with the University of Sunderland who will be mentoring us with our business plan and ideas in preparation for this October’s North East Blueprint Business Planning Competition.

We have been named a Bronze Winner in the Internet/Online Commercial Category at the prestigious 33rd Annual Telly Awards for our recent Book Trailer, The Zombie Room. With nearly 11,000 entries from the United States and numerous countries, this is truly an honour.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honouring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

I know for sure that the whole Contrapunto team would like to send a huge thanks to the book’s writer,
R. D. Ronald and to Nickola Gray, who is based at the University of Sunderland for all their support throughout the entire project. We would also like to send words of appreciation to all the Artists and Crew involved. Without them the making of this trailer would not have been possible.

We’ve got some exciting plans ahead in the next few months. We are soon going to be officially launching Contrapunto as a production company – watch out for details relating to our charity launch event.

It’s been a fairly busy week for the team with a few of us working on securing the picture lock for our upcoming 20 minute drama, Detached. On Monday afternoon the team, alongside Newcastle author,
R. D. Ronald took part in a press call for the promotion of The Zombie Room Book Trailer.

After a brief photo-shoot, Adam, Amy & Richard were interviewed by Spark Sunderland’s, Sam Willey:

The Zombie Room has been entered into the IMTF, an international trailer competition. Each entry can be from a wide variety of genres but must fit into four categories; Fictional Movie, Documentary, Web Series or Book Trailer.

The initial reaction to the trailer has been fantastic. A massive thank you to each and everyone of you who has so far taken 5 minutes out of our time to watch and vote. We’re currently leading the Book Trailer category but we need to keep those votes coming in…

Detached is a film about the degeneration of life. We follow Tom’s last day in his house – it represents who he is and who he was. His daughter, Lizzy is a caring soul but due to her own life’s commitments cannot afford the physical, mental or emotional time to look after her father. This short drama explores the topical theme of Care for the Elderly.

There are a wide range of different roles within a this new short film, to be entered into film festivals worldwide.

The film is about the degeneration of life, we follow one mans last few days in his life long family home, and the difficult decision his daughter is forced to make on his future.

The auditions will run throughout the day from 9am until 6pm, and its just a matter of turning up when you can make it.

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of being introduced to some guys from Arri. From London, they brought with them the Alexa Plus and some lights including their new LED technology powered, L7-C and some Tungstens to mention but a few. In the morning and after getting over all the shock of being round such a fanastic bit of gear, we were set loose (of course, Arri still being in the room!). We filmed some small scenes with minimal planning, in order to gain some experience using these high quality industry items.

In the afternoon, Arri delivered a Masterclass on the Alexas where they revealed some useful information and Workflows, utilising C-Log & Apple ProRes 4444 alongside all the other technical specifications on the unit. It comes standard with a 120 frames per second feature and SxS Card compatibility. The Alexa Plus (one of four in the range) also comes with a wireless Focus & Iris & Zoom unit, enabling you to control the camera from a distance. They also talked about their current and upcoming lighting range.

Arri are hopefully travelling back up to the North East in the New Year. We are really excited about working closer with them in the near future.

Home
We are currently scouting for a home in the North East area which reflects the surroundings of a place where elderly individuals may be currently or have resided in. Locations we are particularly keen to explore are those with features such as wallpapered walls, fabric/pattern carpets and gas fires. The inclusion of a back yard/garden is preferable.
Despite these requirements we will be flexible however we want to make sure the home visually explores the look of which an old-fashioned, elderly residence would carry.

Village Hall
We are currently scouting for a village hall in the North East area which reflects the old world of traditional Britain. This may be a hall which was constructed in the late 19th to early 20th Century and carries features such as visible wooden beams and stained glass windows.

Church
We are currently scouting for a stone/flint church in the North East area which includes a large wooden door surrounded by a front garden/graveyard. Despite these specific requirements, we are flexible to explore many locations however we are scouting for a church which visually depicts an old traditional Britain.
At all locations, we would be looking to shoot interior and exterior scenes. These are required for a film we are planning to shoot late February-early March 2012.
